Run Windows applications on Ubuntu

You will need Wine to run most of the Windows applications. Here’s how you install Wine.

  1. Open synaptic package manager by navigating through System -> Administration -> Synaptic package manager.
  2. Enable all repositories by clicking on Settings -> repositories.
  3. Check all the unchecked items.
  4. Click Reload.
  5. Click search and type Wine, scroll through the list till you find Wine. Click on Mark All Upgrades.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Wait till all the files are downloaded.
  8. Follow the prompts to install Wine.

After you are done with the Wine installation. Just run the windows executable setup file by typing the following:

  1. Press Alt+F2 to run the command.
  2. Key in wine /path (example:- wine /xp/software/setup.exe).
